About the event

On August 18, 2025, Haven for Humanity (H4H) founder Joseph Kim was invited to meet with Senate Majority Leader Lena Gonzalez at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. The meeting highlighted H4H’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and its support for Senate Bill 12 (SB-12), a proposal to establish a statewide refugee agency in California. Although SB-12 ultimately did not pass, the discussion reaffirmed H4H’s dedication to advocating for refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants.


During the meeting, Joseph presented H4H’s activities and vision for building a more inclusive society. He also shared his personal family history, noting that his grandfather was a war refugee during the Korean War at the age of ten—an experience that continues to inspire H4H’s mission today.

In addition, Joseph was introduced to members of the Latino Caucus to explore future collaboration on legislative initiatives that will advance inclusivity and strengthen support for California’s immigrant and refugee…
